Field Day 2012 will go down in the history books as one of our most memorable….
First, we decided to extend an invitation to a few guest operators from Mission and Abbotsford, to join in on our Field Day festivities this year.
No sooner had our guests started arriving then a massive storm came ripping through the Fraser Valley - with violent winds threatening to carry away our tentage and lightning threatening literally everything around us (“Please don’t strike our site, please don’t strike our site, please don’t…“).
A little over an hour later, to our relief, the storm finally passed… …and thankfully our site and membership remained essentially intact, if only a little wet and battered for the experience.
After a great steak dinner from our hosts, Mark and Ros, everything started drying out again and our Field Day returned to normal operations.
The evening brought about our traditional campfire; and many were thankful the weather cooperated again this year. One of our guest operators, Roy [VE7IBJ], from Mission, brought along his guitar; and with a little inspiration, provided hours of entertainment for the gathering. Rick [VE7FWP], another of our guests from the Mission area, did a great job working the background vocals and is to be commended for many of the great pictures you can see here.
Our “rock star” operator this year, with little doubt, was Les [VA7OM] - who managed to log somewhere around 400 CW contacts (contest numbers will follow soon).
Planning is already underway for next year’s event!
