Please come join the Maple Ridge Amateur Radio Club for field day June 23 and 24. Licensed Amateur Radio Operators are welcome to participate as well as anyone interested in learning the hobby can give it a try.
The Maple Ridge Amateur Radio Club (MRARC) has been active in the communities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows since 1975. The club is comprised of members, often referred to as “hams”, with advanced skills in radio communication. We associate for the purpose of promoting the hobby, fellowship and public service. Ham radio has long been relied on to provide communication in times of disaster and other emergencies when the existing public infrastructure is critically compromised. Ham radio networks show resilience when cellular telephone and landline systems fail in earthquakes, floods, wildfires and other natural and man-made disasters.
To this end, ham radio operators all over North America take to the outdoors every year during the last week of June to hone their communication skills. Hams of all ages set up their radio stations in parks, campgrounds and even parking lots to test their ability to use emergency power and supplies for operating in adverse conditions. Field day is also the opportunity for hams in the community to have fun and fellowship with camping, barbeques and contests all part of our activities. We welcome members of the community to come out and observe, ask questions and maybe take a turn with the microphone contacting our ham friends across Canada, the United States and around the world.
Our club would be pleased to have you come by and see ham radio in action. Rain or shine, the radio club will have a trailer set up on the Albion Fairgrounds from 10:00 am on Saturday, June 23 until 10:00 am Sunday, June 24. Please drop by and say hello and see how ham radio can support community events and emergency preparedness.
