A Facebook group calling itself “BC Ham Radio”, which is a subgroup of BC 4×4 Association was issued a warning letter by ISEDC (formerly Industry Canada). The two page letter, attached here, was made public on August 23rd by the group’s administrator, Matt Ion. This letter was discussed and read on Burnaby Amateur Radio’s weekly 2-meter net the same day it was released.
The letter indicates that ISEDC is aware of a significant number of violations by persons believed to be in that 4×4 group. While some comments on the group’s page indicated an intent to disobey the laws, most were either in support or had questions on legalities. The group’s administrator, Matt Ion published a new programming file with non-legal resource-road and commercial frequencies removed indicating it is the forum’s intention to operate lawfully.
It is unknown if recent interference by apparently unlicensed users on Maple Ridge’s repeater is linked to this, but hopefully the letter will inspire users to become licensed and operate lawfully for the betterment of all.
